Calla smiled brightly at Zoe. She'd handle getting Zoe to see Madama Pomfrey. As long as Zoe wasn't angry with her about going this far, it would be alright. She walked carefully onwards, wincing at the pain in her thigh. How did Zoe handle this pain so long?

"We're here," said Calla, "I'll get the door for us."

With that, Calla moved and grabbed the door for the two, and they walked into the Hospital room.

The moment they entered the Hospital Wing, Zoe felt like she couldn't take it any longer. She wanted to be healed, and she really didn't care if that meant questions. Suddenly the pain was too much, and she didn't want to deal with it any longer.

She found Sharma a seat and helped her into it. "Wait here, I'll go get her." And with that, she left to go find Madame Pomfrey.

Calla watched the older girl move away in surprise. She was surprised at Zoe's lack of resistance and her initiative. She wondered if she had finally made headway with the older girl. A large smile blossomed on her face. To see Zoe finally doing something that will help her was extremely exciting for Calla. She wanted to hug the older girl if she hadn't left to get the Nurse.

She squirmed slightly in her seat. How did Zoe deal with this kind of pain on a daily basis? Calla was certain she was bruised and sore in several places. Her thigh hurt really badly where one book had slammed into it. She decided that when she and Zoe walked out of here healed, she'd make sure the first thing she did was convince Zoe that pain was nothing a person deserved and should live with.

Shit, shit, shit. How had she been able to ignore this for so long? It was a miracle, really, that she hadn't made it worse by ignoring it like this. It was annoying; she could go so long without even thinking about it and then all of a sudden... Ow. That was really the only thing to describe it. She supposed it could be worse; if her ribs really were cracked, and it felt that way, then she was lucky to not have broken them by accident.

Lucky. That was a new word. Zoe had never before thought of herself as lucky-at least, not in a long while. Not since her mother died. Before that, she would have easily counted herself as lucky. Lucky to have a mummy and a daddy who loved her, lucky to have so much room in the estate to play, lucky to be magic... But since, everything went downhill. She was no longer lucky in life, just lucky to be alive.

She found Madame Pomfrey in her office, and she knocked lightly on the door. "Madame Pomfrey?" Her voice was as quiet as ever, it'd be a wonder if the woman could hear her. "Someone needs your help."

Yeah, and that someone was Zoe.

Calla sighed as she looked at the ceiling. Zoe still wasn't back yet, and she was waiting for her. She looked to Zoe's direction, wondering what was taking so long. She contemplated getting up and checking on her, but decided to stay seated. If she did everything for Zoe, than the older girl may not help herself in the future. The idea troubled Calla. Zoe shouldn't have to help herself in the future.

"Zoe," she called out, "Did you find her?"

Her own curiosity was driving her to know if Zoe was okay. She felt herself tense as she looked to the office. What if Zoe bolted now? They couldn't afford that. She started to get up, and then winced. She'd wait for Zoe's response.

Zoe had been on her way out of Madame Pomfrey's office, the woman following behind her, when Sharma called for her.

"Zoe, did you find her?"

"Yes, yes, be patient," she thought, standing back as the nurse went to Sharma's aid. But she simply nodded, wincing slightly as she crossed her arms, silently glad that Pomfrey had her back turned. The other girl should be seen to first, if Zoe was to be seen to at all, because her injuries were much less severe. And it was much more important to Zoe that other people weren't in pain than to make sure that she herself wasn't hurt. She didn't care much about herself, she cared about other people.

Calla sighed in relief as Madame Pomfrey tended to her bruises and wounds. The matron scolded her on being a clutz, but Calla was hardly paying attention. Her mind was whirring. How did she get Zoe to be looked over now. She smiled politely and nodded at the older woman, answering questions and laughing where she had to. That didn't mean she was happy. No. Calla Sharma was dedicated, and Zoe was not escaping without being looked over.

"So the books fell on you, dear?" asked Madame Pomfrey again, looking slightly suspicious.

"Yes, but Zoe caught me as they fell," said Calla brightly, looking at Zoe with nervous eyes.

Had she ruined it? What if Zoe took her lie as a betrayal? She had after all, sold out the other girl. It was wrong. She suddenly looked to the ground, unable to meet Zoe's eyes. She'd betrayed her trust now, hadn't she? It was plain as day in Madame Pomfrey's careful scrutiny of Zoe's crossed arms, and discomfort, that the girl was hurt. Madame Pomfrey would be a fool not to see it. The nurse didn't seem like a fool. So, would Zoe forgive her?

Zoe watched silently as Madame Pomfrey took care of Sharma, somewhat amused by the girl's lie about how the books fell on her. It was a fairly transparent lie, but the nurse wouldn't ask more about it, as Sharma's wounds were obviously made by books.

"Yes, but Zoe caught me as I fell." What? Zoe's eyes widened as Sharma brought her into the story, frozen in surprise as Madame Pomfrey turned to look her over. As much as she wanted to hex the girl in front of her, she was also somewhat moved by the fact that Sharma cared.

But still, she wanted to get out of there. Madame Pomfrey had just opened her mouth to tell Zoe to sit down so she could get looked at when she mumbled something about needing to go and turning to leave. She had hardly gone one step, however, when the nurse's hand caught her wrist to stop her, her fingers covering Zoe's old, hidden bruises. She flinched, and knew that there was no way she was getting out now.

Calla looked to the ground as she heard Zoe's attempts at leaving. Then the nurse grabbed Zoe, and Calla winced. Then when Zoe winced as Madamr Pomfrey caught her, Calla felt her resolve harden. She had done the right thing. As Madame Pomfrey began lecturing Zoe on the importance of proper health care, Calla felt her nerves shake. What if Zoe yelled at her?

She needed to leave. If Zoe began yelling at her, Calla couldn't handle it. She got up quickly, and considered leaving. She wouldn't meet Zoe's eyes. She couldn't leave. She needed to leave. Zoe'd be angry if she left. Zoe was angry now. What was Calla to do?

"Should I stay, or do you want me to go?" asked Calla, looking nervously past Zoe.

"Might as well stay," Zoe mumbled, looking past the nurse and at Sharma. She was sat down, and she could feel the nurse's eyes on her as she rolled up her sleeve, each new inch revealing more hidden bruises. She looked straight ahead, Madame Pomfrey's silence telling enough; it looked bad. She knew this, she had to look at it every day, but for someone who'd only just seen it... It would be a shock.

She was just waiting for the nurse to ask where these hand-shaped bruises came from, to ask who had been hitting her, and her mind was racing at a thousand miles an hour trying to come up with a lie, no matter how transparent. But instead, the matron only asked if she was hurt elsewhere as well.

She gave a tiny nod. "My other arm, and my back... I think I've got a cracked rib, as well." She refused to look at anyone. This was exactly what she'd been taught not to do.

Calla gasped in shock when she saw Zoe's arms. The looked much worse in the bright lights of the hospital wing, and she could truly see the bruises now. She didn't know what to say, or what to do really. She felt sick seeing Zoe in such a position. Her poor new friend should never have had to go through this alone! The hand marks were even worse. Someone had put those marks on Zoe!

Calla moved slowly, at sat down beside Zoe. She wanted to support her as best as she knew how. Zoe wouldn't meet her eyes, that was fine. She had betrayed Zoe's trust after all, and a part of her suspected Zoe was ashamed at those bruises. She fought back the tears threatening to slip out. Instead, she decided to be supportive.

"Do you want me to get you anything?" she finally asked, not sure what she should say, "Some water or food? Does it hurt? I can get you something to clench while Madame Pomfrey heals everything."

Zoe was…surprised, to say the least. She had expected Sharma to start asking questions, but instead she was sitting next to her, attempting to be comforting. And, in a way, it was. That she wasn't asking what had happened, that she was ignoring it in a way, was comforting to her. She didn't have to make up lies and excuses.

She shook her head, anyway. "No, thanks, I'm fine." She didn't want anything to eat or drink, mostly because that meant that Sharma would have to leave to get them. Right now, she just wanted the girl to be beside her, to keep trying to be supportive and comforting. That's what Zoe needed right now.

She winced slightly as the nurse checked her arms over, poking and prodding to find out what was new and what was old, whether anything needed extra attention. She was being as gentle as she could, Zoe knew, but it still hurt. She could handle it, though, at least for now. But all bets would be off once Madame Pomfrey got to her ribs.
