Some things just have to be done. Running a coffee shop has more of these so called things than Pete Maehara has had to deal with in the past. The tired ex-prefect of Ravenclaw would reminisce about days gone by when coffee machine's didn't need servicing and customers used to be a foreign word. These run of the mill duties are all to frequent He would ponder as he scribbles down the latest stock list on a battered and torn notebook.
Pete glanced up at the clock hanging above him and the hands weren?t kind. Only a few minutes un till opening. The Sun blasted through the dust smeared pains of glass on to the worn wooden floor lighting up the cold dark space, breathing life into it. The sight was a welcome one to the shop owner. It wasn't everyday that the clouds would open up over the ally enough to let light in. He closed his notebook and tapped it in acknowledgment of completion.
Before carrying on to the rest of his duties he pulled out a cigarette from the packet lining his top pocket and put it to his lips, flicked his lighter out and took a deep breath. That first breath always felt the longest.
He swanned his way around the bar area running his coarse fingers across the grainy surface as he moved, picking up and dust that lay in his path. After checking that the bar was satisfactory in its cleanliness he moved towards the looming open sign, turning over chairs on the scattered tables that sat between the service bar and the door. As he began to pick up one of the last chairs sat upside down atop the table Pete looked back at the door and saw a darkened silhouette just outside it. There was nothing in the shop owners mind that this could be an eager customer looking for a caffeine fix or an even more rare book-worm looking for there word fix from the extensive array of books to read in the shop. His mind already swimming with facts and figures turned to taxes and all the evils that haunt business owners. Someone here to close him down.
In a moment of blind panic he pulled the lip cigarette from his mouth and violently stabbed it out on the nearest table. Oh, what the chaff am I doing he declared rubbing the now scorched table to free it of the mark.
Knock, Knock, Knock... Knock
The door rattled as the shadowy figure knocked to get in. Strangely the first thought that Pete had was Who knocks four times? Shaking the rather useless thought from his mind he shouted ?Just a minute?. He then muscled his way past the scattered chairs and table back to the bar to hide the ledgers and books off the top to a shelf under the counter. Pete then went to grab the front door key situated in the coffee drawer of the large copper coffee maker. His logic behind having his door key in the coffee drawer seemed sound. No body expects the coffee machine.
As Pete moved back towards the door he straightened his top and ruffled his hair. The person who hadn't moved stood ominously behind the old oak door with stain glass windows. The key, carefully went into the lock and turned giving off an almighty click. Knowing how stiff the door could get Pete carefully placed his right foot by the foot and tugged the handle with some force. The door snapped out towards him and threw open. The shop owner could only peer around the door in an awkward fashion and squint his eyes to adjust to the sun-light. The only question crossing his mind was who would come to the Paper Cup... ever, but seriously who is it.

Jonny had been looking for something warm and tasty all morning. His original coffee long gone, he was looking for somewhere to find a replacement. After passing yet another Starbucks, Jonathen headed for Diagon Alley. Hopefully there would be some good wizard drink to be had somewhere along the alley. If not, he would just have to go home and make some more himself. Which he did not plan on doing. And he refused to give in to the giant coffee chain.
Upon entering the alley, he first noticed the quietness. Not a good business day that was sure. There were some people about but not as many when Jonny had been there last. Not that he was in Diagon Alley often. He had probably been there last sometime around Christmas. When people were getting last minute gifts for their little wizard children. But what did that matter. He was here now and he wanted some caffeine.
He remembered a friend of his mentioning a coffee shop at one point but he couldn?t for the life of him remember what it had been called. He wasn?t even sure it still existed. It could have been turned into some robe shop or something by now. But now that Jonathen was thinking of it, he was determined to find the place whether it was there or not.
Going around to different windows, none looked to be where he wanted. Some had been abandoned but they didn?t look as if they had ever held a coffee shop of any sort. But all at once he found what...might be just the place he was looking for. It looked pretty old and not busy...was it even open? Not sure, he decided to knock. Knocking three times, he paused before knocking a fourth for good measure. He heard someone inside before the door swung open and a man peered out. ?Hi. I was looking for a coffee shop that a friend mentioned awhile back. I was just wondering if this was the place. And if it is, could I get a cup of something caffeinated??

Of course, Rhiannon would be one of the first people in Diagon Alley at such an early morning time. But could you really blame her? Being the obnoxious wolf pup that he could be sometimes, Izaya had awoken her. He literally dragged her out of The Leaky Cauldron and into the eerily quiet streets, half asleep. Her pajamas, or what she considered pajamas, weren't the best thing to be out in. The purple sleep shirt came down past her waist and fell about to her mid thigh. Of course, she was wearing a matching pair of plaid shorts under it, but they couldn't be seen because of the shirt's length.
'Oh well...'
she thought as Izaya tugged her down the street, her free hand coming up to cover the yawn that escaped.
What could wake her up? Only one thing...a nice, hot cup of coffee with lots of cream to drown herself in and plenty of sugar to hype her up. After Izaya did his business like a good wolf should, she set him back into the hotel room where he comfortably curled up by the bed on a poofy black beanbag pillow. Pulling on a blue and black tyedye tank top and some white shorts that hugged her thigh to just above her knee, Rhiannon stepped out to find the streets still quiet. There had to be a coffee shop around here somewhere; it just wasn't a perfect alley if there wasn't.
'Thank god it isn't chilly out'
was Rhiannon's consistent thought. Glancing in windows, she almost gave up on finding a coffee shop until she saw a male at the door of one. "Pardon me. Is this The Paper Cup?" She asked gently, the grey blue of her eyes hopeful.

Waiting for a someone to come answer the door after his knock, Jonny considered turning and leaving. It?s not like they would open it if they were closed. And if they were open, wouldn?t it say in the window? But then he heard the voice inside say they would be right there. Maybe they were opening in just a moment anyways. It was almost on the hour. Waiting for whoever was inside, Jonny hardly noticed the girl approach.
?
Pardon me. Is The Paper Cup?
? said the girl. Jonny turned and took in the figure. Well somebody had just rolled out of bed. The girl was still in her pajama shirt. Or dress. Jonny wasn?t sure. He knew it was a bit short to be gallivanting along the streets with though. Jonny hoped she wasn?t crazy. He?d met enough of that sort in his life.
Looking from the girl to the shop and back Jonny said, ?Not sure actually. I was looking for someplace a buddy of mine mentioned awhile back but I dunno if this is it or what it?s called. But if The Paper Cup serves a good cup of joe then I definitely hope this is the place.? Jonny tried to size up this girl. Why wouldn?t someone get dressed before going out in the world? ?Anyways, you do know that you?re just wearing a shirt right? Did you just wake up and come into town??
Jonny had met all sorts of people in his life. He had lived in the US and England and was a quidditch player. Just going different places showed the number of people out there. But if someone recognized him from the Falcons, who knew. One time an old bent man with barely any teeth came up to him saying he was his greatest fan. Then tried to sell him a tree branch as a broomstick. He wanted Jonathen to use it in his next match. Just so he didn?t upset the man, Jonny bought it for a low sum. But at least the dude had his pants on. This girl didn?t as far as Jonny could tell. And she was wearing a shirt. Not a dress. She probably was just itching for a good cup of warmth but Jonny would have at least gotten dressed before going out.

Her face said it all. Rhiannon was thoroughly bothered by the male before her though she kept her tongue in line. She had never been a morning person and of course, that wasn't about to change. "Pardon me, but I don't look that unruly. And yes, I AM wearing a shirt, longer than most that people normally wear. And I'm even wearing shorts beneath them. Amazing, no?" Her eyes were narrowed as if the expression itself was enough to burn away the male's face. Sarcasm had laced her tone, though with the effects of sleep still affecting her, she hoped it didn't sound too rude.
She knew that most guys didn't understand how difficult it was to be a girl and be comfortable in sleepwear. All that stuff they read about how sexy it made one feel to be only in underwear or other bulljive like that was completely and utterly false. Running a hand through her hair, Rhiannon looked around frustratedly. Where had that blasted pup run off to? As if he could read her mind, the wolf bounded down the street to walk around her in circles, barking cheerfully before her hand dropped down to rub his head. "Shush, boy. Don't wake the whole alley!" She whispered as the wolf quieted down before leaping up where she caught him in both hands, her shirt lifting only slightly so that the shorts beneath were visible.
Izaya stopped wiggling in her arms as she blinked, finally awake. Her eyes had taken on a fuller grey now, the quality of the expression on her face priceless. The look on his face told her that he thought she was a loon, a crazed female. She could sort of see it from his perspective, a random girl running around the streets of Diagon Alley at the early hours of the morning in her sleepwear. He looked a little familiar though at the moment she couldn't exactly pinpoint from where. "Have I seen you somewhere before?" Her head tilted and her eyebrow quirked, the redhead simply stared at the strange male here before her.

The girl seriously looked like she would rip his face apart. Jonny hadn?t meant any harm, really. He grinned, unsure of how to fix this. ?Look, I didn?t mean to upset you. Just wanted to make sure you know. So if people give you weird looks that?s probably why.? What did he care? He just wanted his cup of coffee with lots of cream. Just as he thought of the wonderful image, a dog came bounding their way and the girl attempted to hush it.
It was quite a cute pup. Now that the girl was holding him, Jonny saw it wasn?t just a dog but a wolf. He also saw that the girl truly was wearing some shorts. ?He?s a handsome pup. Looks like quite the ball of energy.? Jonny was definitely a dog person. Loved every dog he had ever came in contact with. And he instantly loved this girl?s as well. He had never actually met anyone with an actual wolf though. If he told his family back home he had met someone with a pet wolf they wouldn?t believe him. There weren?t any wolves in Tennessee after all. Only coyotes and they shot them if they endangered the ranch at all.
The wolf settled down as the girl looked at him. ?Look, I?m sorry if I sounded rude. I just wouldn?t wear my pajamas out of my house to get the paper much less down the streets of Diagon Alley. But I suppose it?s a personal preference.? Jonny shrugged trying not to feel awkward standing outside a possibly closed shop with some random girl in her PJ's.
"
Have I seen you somewhere before?"
she asked. How many times had he heard that before? He hated talking about himself but it kind of came with the territory of a professional quidditch player. Jonny smiled. ?Maybe. I?m Jonathen Rand. Jonny. It?s nice to meet you. What?s your name??

"Jonathen Rand of the Falmouth Falcons, right?" She asked, her head tilted. Rhiannon had never been very good at keeping up with the Quidditch teams. Sure, quidditch was fun, one of her favorite sports but not one that she truly wished to follow. She preferred books to following sports teams or famous bands for that matter. She couldn't help but notice the way he looked at Izaya, the look of confusion upon her face questioning whether he'd ever seen a wolf pup so close before. "The name's Rhiannon, by the way. Rhiannon Cipriano."
"And don't worry about it. I'm sorry for snapping at you, Jonathen. I'm not a very good morning person. And I normally wouldn't be up at this empty and quiet hour. It's just that this little guy," she nuzzled her nose into the pup's fur with a giggle before continuing, "decided that he couldn't wait to go outside for his morning break. So I had to get up to take him out. Figured I might as well grab a cup of cafe au lait with lots of sugar before I head back to the room. Places tend to really fill up when the morning crowd gets up and the streets are bustling with people. And personally, I'm not one for big crowds." A soft smile graced her face as Izaya looked at Jonathen, sniffing curiously and wiggling towards him.
"Izaya. Calm down. You don't bother strangers. It's rude." The pup whimpered in understanding that he was being scolded, though it was a light scolding. "I'm sorry. He's got so much energy, but he's very friendly." The wolf's pointy ears slowly went down as he looked at the male. His little wet nose twitched as his glacier blue orbs stared at him sadly, a silent plea to be pet. Rhiannon's hand caressed the soft fur, looking at the shoppe window with a disappointed expression. Why couldn't shops open just a little earlier?

Jonny smiled. ?Yeah, that?s me. It?s nice to meet you Rhiannon.? Jonny was looking at the dog, wondering if it was ok to pet it or if he would bite. He loved dogs but he had never come in contact with a wolf, puppy or otherwise. Outside of the zoo of course. ?I?m not usually the morning type myself. But after practice yesterday, I got home and wiped out early. So I woke up early as well.?
The little wolf struggled against Rhiannon. She scolded him slightly, but Jonny knew the poor thing just wanted some extra love. Never minding whether the animal would bite or not, Jonny reached out a hand to pet the creature. He was soft and furry and definitely loved getting a petting. Jonny laughed. ?Well isn?t he excited. Izaya you said? Cute name. He?s definitely very handsome.? The pup was glowing with the attention. Jonny rubbed his head. ?Ya know, I?ve never pet a wolf. Actually I have never known anyone that has a wolf as a pet. Most people have cats or labs or fish. Not many have wolves.?
Petting the wolf, Johnny looked at the door of the shop. He could have sworn he had heard someone inside saying they would be there. Unless he was losing his hearing. Jonny shook his head. He wasn?t that old. And he didn?t usually listen to his music loud so that wasn?t the case. ?I know I heard someone in there. The question is if they are planning on coming to the door or not. Maybe they don?t open til later. Which would be weird for a coffee place but it could happen.?

"The pleasure is mine." She said softly, smiling as Izaya's tail thumped against her side. "It must be tough being a quidditch player. Do you often get mobbed by fangirls?" The thought amused Rhiannon to no end, though she simply didn't think she'd be able to handle such attention. Izaya's tongue licked Jonathen's hand, a cheerful bark slipping from his muzzle before looking up at his owner. "He was a gift when i was little. We've grown up together." They stared at one another for a moment, a giggle escaping Rhiannon as the pink tongue came in contact with her cheek.
Looking at the door, she shook her head. She'd thought that a coffee sop would have already been open, coffee a normal morning routine for most people, magical and non-magical. What could be better than a cup of coffee with lots of cream and sugar? The idea made her remain patient as she moved forward to knock upon the door. "Hello? Is anyone in there?" Rhiannon asked, not sure if she could be heard. Certainly, there had to be someone here. After all, it was a shop and shops were soon to be opening all around them.
"Maybe they'll be open a little later on? Would you like to hang out for a little while?" She asked, the question nonchalant as she set Izaya down at their feet, the pup sitting and looking up at him expectantly.

Jonny supposed being a quidditch player could be difficult at times. Especially after hours of practicing when they were all sore and tired and wanted a nice relaxing shower but had to keep flying anyways. Jonny thought if he had ever truly been mobbed by fangirls. Shaking his head he said, ?I don?t think I have. Sure a few now and then but a large pack of them at once. Thank God for that. If it ever is a pack its right after a match.?
Jonny was grateful he wasn?t followed by fans everywhere he went. It gave him some peace and quiet when he wanted it. He smiled as the wolf licked his owners face. ?He?s cute. I?ve never seen a wolf this close. They aren?t really pets where I?m from.? Jonny pet the pup.
Looking at the door he really wanted some coffee. So much for that idea. For all he knew the place would never open. Rhiannon knocked on the door. ?I was sure I heard somebody in there. Maybe they thought we were someone else and decided not to open after all.?
Rhiannon offered to hang out for a bit until the shop opened. Jonny nodded. ?Sure. That?d be nice. But if that place doesn?t open up soon I?m going to need to go home and make some of my own drink. I hate being non-caffeinated in the morning. Sometimes the extra jolt is just what it takes to get me going.?
