Distinguishing Features: Mathias is 150% blind without his heavy rimmed glasses despite their size it is still hard to keep the necessary glass in the rim to correct the apalling state of his vision. Matt is covered in tattoos, the most impressive being a dragon tattoo occupying his entire back, he also has half a sleeve on his left arm, with an intricate design themed around greek mythology. He also has the symbols for PHI and PI tattooed on his stomach. Mathias is generally together but slightly unkempt with stubble of some sort usually.

Overview: At his very core Matt is extremely shy and introverted. All of his energy is drawn from alone time, and after spending a lot of time teaching classes or at social gatherings he requires some time by himself to unwind and recharge or he becomes extremely irritable. Despite this inner inclination, however, Matt is far from shy in how he presents himself. An expert at making himself seem less socially awkward than he is, Matt's day-to-day life is often theatrically unaware of his shyness. He is the first to join in a party with people he knows, and the last to join a party with people he doesn't know. Unless he is very comfortable with people he can be extremely cold.

In social situations Matt is friendly, but impersonal. He is capable of holding a perfectly ordinary conversation, but leaving a talk with Matt can be unfulfilling as he never really reveals much about himself, this probably stems from his shyness and a lack of acceptance at Hogwarts. He can come across as a bit phony in his friendliness, but never to the point that one would call him on it.

Matt's major social problem is that he has a lot of trouble talking to women that he likes. And, by a lot of trouble I mean serious issues. Prone to stuttering, blushing, and a shattering inability to even talk. Avoidance seems to be his solution of choice. His friends are unmerciful in making fun of him for it, and rightly so. Matt is certainly the sort to use liquid confidence to advance his agenda. Despite this issue he is not a virgin, though is usually unsatisfied with the women he finds himself sleeping with.

As a professor, Matt is bright and intelligent. He knows what he teaches exceptionally well, which can be both a blessing and a curse. On one hand students who are good at Arithmancy will get more out of his class than any other, though those who are not so good at it will likely lag behind. He doesn't dislike helping his students but can, on occasion have difficulties breaking difficult Arithmancy theories down into component parts when students don't understand. To him it seems simple, but to most Arithmancy is extremely complicated, obviously. The subject matter of his class, while tedious to most is something Matt finds exciting, and he teaches it as such. He is a fairly strict disciplinarian, and does not take kindly to students acting out in his class. He is not the sort of professor to help people unless they come and flat out ask for it, and is not above passing students just to get them out of his way.

In general, Matt is very calm and reserved, he can be serenely peaceful even when everything is going up in flames around him. He can be a bit eccentric at times but rarely stands out in a group of people.

Individual History
The middle child of five, Matt has always felt a bit ignored with both an older brother and sister, and a younger brother and sister Matt cannot recall a time that he was the ?special snowflake? of his household. Rather, his older siblings were both impressive, and talented. His oldest sister, Danika a Quidditch star, and drafted by a team shortly after Hogwarts, and his brother Archibald being exceptionally popular (after Hogwarts he would take a position in the ministry). His younger brother Isaac was both brilliant and autistic and always needed extra attention who would get an internship at St. Mungo's in his graduation. Matt's youngest sister, Wren Vector is probably the closest person in his family to him. Both of Vector's parents were overachievers who expected nothing but perfection from all five of their children.

As a child Matt was always the quiet intellectual one. He was found to be blind fairly young and was never without thick prescription glasses. He was massively dorky, and unable to even conceive of how to escape the childhood years of bad hair, braces and unpopularity. Always eclipsed by his siblings, Matt's quiet attitude was only emphasized. And so, when he started his first year at Hogwarts he was hardly noticed, sorted into Ravenclaw and promptly forgotten, only ever being pointed out as 'Danika's Brother' or 'Archibald's Brother'. He was already tall and awkward by his first year, properly nerdy with large glasses awkward posture, and two older siblings who were remarkable. Needless to say, despite his immense intelligence Matt was still vastly overshadowed by his older siblings. The Ravenclaw had few friends and kept to himself more often than not. The only friend he managed to make in his first year was a Gryffindor named Pierre von Trier, Pierre shared Matt's reserved and intellectual nature, and the two have been best friend ever since.

This trend of unpopularity would continue for most of his Hogwarts career, Matt would be completely lost in his studies, with few friends to speak of due to his quiet personality and inability to hold a conversation without stuttering. One of his few friends was the tragically obese Hufflepuff Wynter Caufield, another was the brooding Astrid Harper. However, Matt was not completely unhappy with his lot, and was a prodigy in Arithmancy. In fact, he would soon make pocket change grading assignments for some of his Arithmancy Proffesor, after graduating 7th year Arithmancy in his 5th year. At least until his sixth year, where his outlook would change.

The summer between his fifth and sixth year an uncle, who had always been a favourite of Matt gave him an old copy of London Calling, and Nevermind the Bollocks. This was the start of a bit of a revolution in Matt's life. He would soon after buy a guitar, and completely retreat into the 80s punk lifestyle. Piercings, tattoos, leather jackets, mohawks(he is still proud of a very tall red mohawk he sported for almost his whole sixth year) and all. If nothing else it taught Matt how to pretend to be able to talk to people, and he became much more acquainted with people who were facinated by his transformation. Though punk did turn him into the chain smoker that he is today, it helped him more than he could ever imagine, making him able to at least appear socially acceptable. He would make a few friends this way, but for the most part it was simply an experiment. While his peripheral friends changed dramatically in this period his core group of friends (Wyn, Astrid and Pierre) would stay the same. He would get his infamous dragon tattoo in his seventh year, after months of saving.

If he could hold nothing else dear, Matt would graduate Hogwarts with the highest honours anyone in his family had ever achieved. These marks gave him a sense of satisfaction which he had never had before. Of course beyond that he was enjoying the punk's life, Matt decided he was not ready to get a job just yet and set about heading out to the United States for sixteen months of adventure and drama. His parents expressly forbade him to go, threatening to cut him out of the family if he did. They wanted Matt to put his life together, and were not impressed about the punk life that he had fallen into. At the age of 19 the former Ravenclaw did not much care, and left all the posessions he couldn't carry with him in Pierre's house. He arrived in New York City at 19, and joined a band less than a month later.

Vector's band was certainly not going to be making the big time any time soon, and in fact, Matt would change bands as frequently as his socks. The former Ravenclaw would, however, get to see all of North America and play his way to food, shelter and water. His life was far from glamourous, but it was the happiest Matt could remember being. The circumstances under which Matt left North America are a little on the fuzzy side, though he curtly says 'deportation' to anyone who bothers to ask about his time in America.

Matt returned 16 months later, happier than he had ever been. He sent post cards to all of his friends and his youngest sister from all over America. (Though despite mailing letters to Wren his parents intercepted all of them and never gave them to her, leading his sister to believe that he never wrote her once, despite the fact that she sent him daily angry owls). Matt deeply regrets what happened with Wren is extremely resentful towards his parents for cutting him out of her life the way they did.

Due to the necessity of finding a job that had become particularly pressing the man had turned twenty, Matt toned his look down to one that was considerably more conservative, though his year abroad had done wonders for him, now socialized and physically fit Matt's life had taken a turn for the better. His brilliance quickly spotted by many employers, contrary to his parent's threats he found a job very quickly, and soon had his own flat in Manchester. Remembering his love for Arithmancy, Mathias would apply for a job as a Gringott's code breaker, only working there for a few months before receiving a letter from Dumbledore asking him to teach Arithmancy at Hogwarts. Unable to turn down the amazing pay and free room and food Matt would turn the Hogwarts castle into his home. He has been teaching for several years now and wouldn't give up his job for anything.

As a favour to his closest friend Pierre, Matt recently decoded a Death Eater code leading to him being bitten by a werewolf, he is still adjusting to this huge change in his life. Every Friday night, Matt can be found drinking with his three school friends, Pierre von Trier, Wynter Caufield, and Astrid Harper.
